NASB2020 Version: Genesis 2:15-17; Exodus 3:1-2; Genesis 3:6; Matthew 6:33; Revelation 21: 10, 22-23; Revelation 22:1-2; Proverbs 3:5-6

In Week 6 of The Fear of God: The Essentials of Spiritual Formation, Dr. Kenyon Godwin challenges us to examine the difference between trying and trusting. From the Garden of Eden to Proverbs 3, we see a pattern that has existed from the beginning: humanity’s temptation to rely on our own understanding instead of fully trusting the presence, power, wisdom, and authority of God.

Fearing God means more than acknowledging Him. It requires obedience, reverence, and wholehearted trust.

In this message, Dr. Godwin teaches us that the choice before us is often simple, even when it isn’t easy:

Obedience or convenience.

Trusting God or trying to figure it out.

Through Genesis 2–3, Exodus 3, Matthew 6:33, Revelation 21–22, and Proverbs 3:5–6, we are reminded that we were never created to live independently of God’s presence and power.

3 Steps to Trusting God:

1. Consume Him

2. Be still in His presence

3. Wait & walk

Immerse yourself in God’s Word and presence. Quiet your mind long enough to hear Him. Wait patiently, but continue walking according to His Word and His will, trusting the Holy Spirit to provide guidance and peace.
